Appliance Rebate Program Set to Begin

AUSTIN - Representative Pete Gallego would like to remind everyone that the Appliance Rebate Program begins tomorrow, April 7. "This program is to help folks who have needed to make those upgrades to new washers, dryers, and refrigerators but have been unable to because of their price" Gallego said. As any government rebate program there are rules and guidelines to be followed.

STEM Scholarships

ALPINE - State Representative Pete Gallego would like to make sure as many people as possible know of scholarships available to Hispanics pursing degrees in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). "Many folks do not attend college because of it's price, it is important that you get out and look for these grants and scholarships" Gallego said. The scholarship is available through the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, currently there is a demand for engineers throughout the county and this is a perfect opportunity to help fill this gap.

Representative Gallego Thanks Deputy Jerry Millan

AUSTIN - Representative Gallego would like to thank Reeves County Deputy Sheriff Jerry Millan for putting his life on the line in service to his community. Deputy Millan was shot Wednesday, March 10, while serving a misdemeanor warrant. Millan was in stable condition at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa as of Wednesday evening. "I would like to thank Deputy Millan for his bravery and service. I'm extremely thankful for the work that he and all peace officers provide to their communities. Rebate Program Available for Purchases of Energy Efficient Appliances

AUSTIN - Representative Pete Gallego would like to let everyone know of a new rebate program available to Texans. "This is a great opportunity for people to purchase major appliances" Gallego said. 2010 Census

AUSTIN - 2010 is a census year and Representative Pete Gallego urges everyone to participate in the census. Texas' Independence Day

Today, March 2, marks the 174th year since Texas' Independence. On this day in 1836, fifty-nine folks signed the Declaration of Independence for the Republic of Texas. The signing came a year after the first battle of the Texas Revolution and shortly before the decisive battle of San Jacinto. The victorious San Jacinto Battle on April 21, 1836 gave Texas independence for about a decade, a ten year period that still shapes the people of this state today. "The folks of Texas are the only one's that I know of that mention their home state with such pride and honor." Representative Gallego said "My family and I are proud that we are Texans too."

Donation Account Set Up for Maqueta Allen

Representative Gallego sends his best to Marqueta Allen who lost her home to a fire that destroyed everything. Thankfully no one seriously injured, two of her sons though received second degree burns. "It devastating these things happen, I'm happy that we didn't lose anyone" Gallego said. West Texas Cities Recieve Needed Stimulus Funds

Three West Texas cities were approved for grants from the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB). The City of Sabinal received $3,560,000 to repair significant problems with the wastewater treatment plant. The City of Presidio received $12,255,000 in order to replace their wastewater treatment facility. Lastly, the City of Valentine is installing its first wastewater collection and treatment system with a $2,500,000 grant. All the grants from the TWDB were possible because of the money available from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 through the clean Water State Revolving Fund-Disadvantaged Community Program.

I met Paul Valenzuela as a young 27 year old campaigning for the Texas Legislature my first time. He had been appointed to the Pecos County Commissioner’s Court and was running for his first full term.  Though he had his own race to run, he took the time to mentor me, to guide me, and frankly in the end he took my race into his own hands as well.
