We did it!
It`s been a wild few days and I`m just now coming up for air. I feel hugely privileged, incredibly fortunate, and tremendously humbled.
The voters have elected me the next member of Congress from District 23. As a kid who grew up in a small town of 6,000 people, having the opportunity to represent over 700,000 people in Congress is truly unbelievable.
Growing up in West Texas, I acquired a bit of an independent streak. I expect to keep it. My practice has always been to vote in the interests of the people at home. I intend to fight for every one of my constituents - not just those at one end of the political spectrum or the other.
Together, we can be an example for people across the country.
Though this has been a long journey, the real work has not yet started.
There is much to do on behalf of middle class families and small businesses. The interests of America`s seniors must be protected. And, our nation`s debt of honor to military families, our veterans, and our men and women in uniform must be paid.
It’s time to get to work so that kids from across the country and from all economic backgrounds can have an opportunity to go to college and build their futures. It’s time to get to work so that ALL families can still have a shot at the American dream.
None of this would have been possible without the many people who made calls, who knocked on doors, and who volunteered for our race because they wanted to make a difference. None of this would have been possible without the help of many of you who contributed $5, $10, $25 or much more towards our effort.
Thank you. Thank you for your support, your encouragement and your vote of confidence. Now, I ask for your prayers. Our real work has only just begun.
