I strongly support expanding Medicaid in Texas, which will immediately provide 1 million poor, working uninsured Texas families with health care coverage, but also make sure Texas taxpayers help people in Texas, rather than sending their federal taxes to states like California and New York.
I understand that Medicare is what keeps many seniors from falling into poverty. I've always opposed efforts to cut Medicare or turn it into a voucher program. Instead I support efforts to reduce waste and fraud and to lower prescription drug costs, which will save billions for seniors and reduce the overall cost of Medicare.
Furthermore, to strengthen the solvency of Medicare, I would support allowing Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices, which would save the program $24 billion annually.
